Queer Screen has announced that it will fundraise for The Equality Campaign at the upcoming Queer Screen Film Fest, being held in Sydney from the 19th – 25th September. For every ticket sold, Queer Screen will donate one dollar to The Equality Campaign.
Queer Screen is the non-profit LGBTIQ organisation who produce the annual Mardi Gras Film Festival and Queer Screen Film Fest. Making the fundraising announcement on behalf of the Queer Screen Board, Queer Screen President Kevin Ryan said:
“Queer Screen has a proud history of supporting Australian Marriage Equality. As a organisation, we’re dedicated to celebrating the strength and diversity of LGBTIQ people on screen, and we’re passionate about achieving equality for our community.
“Should the government’s proposed postal vote on marriage equality go ahead, we want to help ensure a ‘yes’ vote is successful.”
‘We are delighted to announce fundraising support of The Equality Campaign through a one dollar donation from every ticket sold at this year’s Queer Screen Film Fest,’ Kevin Ryan said.
The 5th Queer Screen Film Fest hits Sydney screens in three weeks, with tickets on sale at queerscreen.org.au. The full program runs from Tuesday 19 September to Sunday 24 September at Event Cinemas George Street, and includes a free outdoor Rainbow Families screening of Moana at Sydney Park, St Peters on Saturday 16 September in the lead up to the festival.
Featuring 20 films from four continents, including 16 Australian premieres, Queer Screen Film Fest showcases a diverse range of LGBTIQ stories across narrative features, documentaries and shorts.
