A tender romance develops between a young man and the outsider who shakes up his reality, in this astutely observed Polish drama.

Bartek runs a small family farm under the watchful eye of his mother. When circumstances bring a neighbour’s son back home, Bartek is immediately attracted to this man who broke free of the confines of their conservative rural town. When sexy, carefree Dawid offers Bartek newfound intimacy and a glimpse of escape, he’s torn about his future. In the vein of audience favourites God’s Own Country and Los Fuertes (MGFF20), Elephant is about the lessons and complexities the heart can bring.

“What makes Elephant not so typical is its style and tone. With a hearty, subtle and romantic atmosphere, enhanced by shots of bucolic nature… and warm light, the film feels simply different and that optimistic mood is an external representation of Bartek’s buoyant personality.”
