When a gruesome alien evil crashlands in the woods, a grieving small-town homebody must team up with a ragtag crew of video store misfits to overcome her grief to save the world, featuring an all-star cast of queer film luminaries and produced by Jane Schoenbrun.

Our Effed Up World follows Sheri (Sara Thompson; One of Us Is Lying), a young girl who has spent her life watching the skies with her astronomer father, Hank (Scott Major; Neighbours). Paralysed by grief after the passing of her beloved grandmother, Sheri finds solace among a ragtag group of cinephile misfits at her local video store. But when a neon-green meteorite crash-lands nearby and unleashes a gruesome, otherworldly evil upon the town, the retail shitkickers must step up. It quickly becomes Sheri and her loyal mates’ task to conquer their apathy, save humanity, and kick some serious alien ass.

Directing her seventh feature at just 21 years old, Mackay assembles an all-star cast of queer cinema icons, including Annapurna Sriram and Brandon Flynn (Fucktoys), Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow), a cameo from local auteur Leela Varghese (Lesbian Space Princess), and Alexei Toliopoulos.
