Panel: Queer Awakenings - the Films That Made You Feel Seen

Book Tix!

What’s your coming out film? Join our fun interactive panel discussion on the LGBTIQ+ movies that ignited your 'aha' moments of queer realisation or made you feel truly seen on screen.

Perhaps you will be able to relate to our Festival Director Lisa Rose’s story of realisation as she watched When Night is Falling with her *cough* boyfriend? Or maybe a more recent film made you go weak at the knees? Looking at groundbreaking classics through to contemporary gems our panellists will share what screen stories have sparked self-discovery, empowerment, and a sense of belonging for them and hopefully you.

Moderated by comedian, writer, podcaster and film critic Alexei Toliopolous (Finding Yeezus, Question Everything), he will be joined by producer and filmmaker Su Goldfish (The Last Goldfish, MGFF18; Creation), writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law (The Family Law, Wellmania), director and editor Sam Matthews (Danielle Laidley: Two Tribes; A Portrait of Love, MGFF24), and comedian, writer and actress Nina Oyama (Deadloch, Taskmaster Australia).

This enlightening conversation promises to celebrate the diverse array of films that have become beacons of understanding and affirmation for queer individuals across the world.

This event is presented in partnership with the State Library of New South Wales.
