Summer's Camera

Sweet, tender and genuinely moving, this contemporary queer coming-of-age story explores self-discovery through the intersections of the past and present.

After the death of her photographer father, Summer stops taking photos altogether. Her world, once shaped by the click of a shutter, falls into silence – until a crush on school soccer star Yeonwoo compels her to pick up her father’s camera and finally finish off his roll of film. But when she gets the photos developed Summer discovers a series of photos of Maru, a man she’s never met before. Tracking him down to a hair salon, he reveals he was her father’s first love, and he becomes an unexpected queer mentor as the two bond through their shared grief.

Divine SUNG’s stunning debut feature embraces a confident cinematic approach, weaving expressive silence with a poetic interplay between analogue and digital imagery. With sensitivity and grace, the film captures the moments when coming out is both possible and impossible, offering a compassionate portrait of first love, memory and the courage to face what remains unspoken.
