The Chambermaid

Original language title: Sluzka
Book Tix!

Fingersmith meets Ammonite in this passionate historical drama about two teenage girls who fall in love from opposite ends of the social ladder.

When Anka leaves her small town to become a maid for a powerful Austrian family in Prague, she is confronted with a world vastly different from anything she has experienced. After a rocky start with the family’s daughter, their animosity soon becomes companionship, and an escape from societal expectations placed upon them. Set during World War I, this is a compelling look into the lives of women at the turn of the twentieth century.

Content warning: contains depictions of domestic violence, sexual assault and suicide themes.
