Queer Screen is looking for passionate, community-minded people to join our leadership team in the volunteer roles of Board Director and Board Associate.
For more than 30 years, Queer Screen has championed diverse LGBTQIA+ stories through film. We proudly produce the Mardi Gras Film Festival and the Queer Screen Film Fest, along with year-round screenings and special events that uplift and celebrate our communities.

About the Roles
We strive to have diverse and varied backgrounds and experiences within our Board Directors and Board Associates.
We are therefore recruiting for a number of people to join the team, across a variety of skill sets:
1. Board Directors
Board Directors are officers of the organisation, and provide governance, strategic direction, oversight and leadership for Queer Screen. They work closely as a team to support the CEO and other staff to ensure the organisation remains sustainable, impactful and aligned to our mission.
2. Board Associates
Our invaluable Board Associates work alongside Board Directors to help deliver key projects, and provide support in strategic activities. Board Associates are observers at Board meetings, and the role is ideal for those who want to contribute their expertise while building experience toward a potential future Board position.
Fun fact: our current Co-Chairs both started as Board Associates before moving to Board Director roles, and then Co-Chairs!
Commitment required
In either role, you should expect to join at least four Board meetings each year, and contribute at least 40 volunteer hours per year. You will actively contribute to at least one portfolio/project each year, aligned to your area of expertise, and as needed by the organisation.
You’ll need to hold a current Queer Screen membership and uphold Queer Screen’s Mission, Vision, Values and policies.

Skills Areas & Experience
We welcome people with experience in:

- Film industry (production, festivals, distribution, programming, industry development, screen culture)
- Marketing, communications & social media
- Philanthropy, partnerships or fundraising
- Business administration, including HR, governance, Legal and/or Accounting
- Member engagement
- Event Management
Prior Board experience is helpful but not essential, especially for Associate roles.
