Inspired by true events, this beautifully shot period drama blends nostalgic romance with unflinching realism, shining a light on a shameful and largely forgotten chapter of British history.
In 1920s England, novelist Owen (Fionn O’Shea; Handsome Devil, MGFF17) is institutionalised for being gay. Through a series of doctor-prescribed “dates,” he forms an unlikely friendship with his psychiatric nurse as he recounts his past passionate affairs, including one with a doctor named Phillip (Robert Aramayo, The Rings of Power). However, their forbidden romance spiralled out of control when Phillip became convinced he could “cure” them both of their feelings for one another, in this lyrical and deeply defiant film.

“This is a confident debut, clearly extensively researched, put together with great care and makes for a welcome addition to the canon of queer period dramas.”
— Little White Lies
“Lilies Not For Me is a gut-wrenching drama that revisits a neglected, dark period in queer history through the hazy lens of a complex love triangle.”
