Mardi Gras Film Festival presents two films with IVFAustralia

Here at Queer Screen, we welcome people from across the LGBTIQ+ spectrum and from families chosen and otherwise. We are pleased to be partnering with IVFAustralia to present two films from this year’s Mardi Gras Film Festival.

Potato Dreams of AmericaIn turns camp, stylised and moving, this film – which expands the short film that won the Audience Award at MGFF18 – will stay with you! Quirky and unforgettable, it follows young Potato who leaves an oppressive USSR with his mother to find a better life in the US.

Shorts About Family TiesFamily means something different to everyone, even more in the LGBTIQ+ community. These Shorts About Family Ties explore some of the many different types of family and relationships we can have.

In Boom and Bloom, a father and son try to bond on a hike in the Austrian Alps; an interracial lesbian couple use straight talk and a little bit of cannabis to ease tensions in Blunt; a breakdown on the way to the airport in Borekas provides a father and son with an opportunity to reconnect; after moving to Los Angeles, Esi discovers a community in which she can let down her walls in Sunday’s Child; and in Baba, we follow a Libyan teen, Britannia as he attempts to escape to the pulsing queer world of Manchester.
