Acclaimed documentarian Jeffrey Schwarz (Tab Hunter Confidential, QSFF15) explores the impact the AIDS epidemic had on Hollywood, and Los Angeles more broadly, in this inspiring documentary.
Commitment to Life delivers an inspiring look into the vital work of LA locals and LGBTIQ+ activists, including the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), in driving public awareness towards the epidemic during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Through rarely seen interview and archival footage, it also dives into the role Hollywood star power – including Elizabeth Taylor – played in fighting stigma and misinformation, as well as influencing funding for a cure.
Content warning: contains homophobia and footage which may be distressing to some viewers
“Jeffrey Schwarz, one of the most prolific documentarians working today and a man who has dedicated his life to redressing the balance in regard to LGBTQ+ narratives, is careful not to deliver only those stories which we have all heard before.”
