The Queen of My Dreams

Book Tix!

A celebration of classic Bollywood cinema, The Queen of My Dreams is a vibrant tale of a mother and daughter navigating grief and cultural identity.

In 1990s Canada, queer Muslim student Azra has a tense relationship with her mother Mariam. Following the death of her father, she travels to Pakistan to grieve with family, where her mother’s expectations of her prove difficult. But 30 years earlier, idealistic Mariam went through her own journey of self-discovery and independence. In their stunning feature directorial debut, Fawzia Mirza (Signature Move, MGFF18) seamlessly weaves these two tales together, as we learn that mother and daughter may not be so different after all.

“So fresh, and super saturated in colour that its vim, sparkle, and humour cannot help but shine through.” – Queerguru

“Its endearing charm radiates not only from its affectionate nod to Sharmila Tagore, or its love affair with Bollywood, but also from its dedication to narrating the tales of multiple generations of women.” – Deadline Hollywood
