Fates collide in a Toronto laundromat when a chance encounter sees love blossom between a young Tamil woman and a Mohawk-Iranian woman.

When they first meet, Malai and Kawenniióhstha (Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs, Reservation Dogs) couldn’t have seemed more different. But as they grow closer, they discover it’s more than just attraction they have in common. Both attempt to heal the wounds left by the sacrifices their immigrant families were forced to make, as they figure out who they are as individuals and as a couple. This heartwarming story beautifully navigates burgeoning romance, cultural heritage and complicated family histories.

Australian Premiere

The Saturday 18 February screening includes a special Q&A with writer-director V. T. Nayani and editor Maureen Grant.

“This is the rare lesbian film with an interracial relationship that doesn’t include a white person, but to celebrate that alone is to ignore the real achievement: the specificity in how the film portrays their cultural backgrounds, the specificity in how the film portrays these individual characters.”
