Following Ani Di Franco as she continues to tour and make new music, 1-800-ON-HER-OWN (named for her record company’s hotline) shows us that her voice and uniquely percussive guitar style are still as powerful today as ever. After bursting onto the ‘90s folk music scene with her shaved head, sexuality and unapologetic feminist ideals front and centre, she became a beacon for young women around the world. Her vulnerability and openness as a 51 year-old introduces us to a new phase as she looks for new ways to remain relevant as a very famous – yet still struggling – artist in the modern world.
