This well-made claustrophobic thriller is both a gripping tale and an absorbing character drama – a real stand-out in the festival line-up.
Where Butterflies Don’t Fly follows Daniel, a high school student, and one of his teachers, Adam, who are thrown together in a precarious situation. Daniel is an outsider among his classmates, while Adam keeps his gay relationship a secret from his workplace. Heading off on a weekend school excursion, they find themselves trapped in a vast cave system and must navigate through their personal issues – and a way out. An engrossing and rewarding cinematic experience from the Czech Republic.
